Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions - North Dayton ChapelDebra Sue Ross, affectionately known as Debbie, left this world on November 7, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio, at the age of 71. Born on April 25, 1954, in Goshen, Ohio, she filled her life with warmth, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Debbie touched the lives of everyone she encountered, always radiating selflessness and care, particularly during her own illness, as she continued to put the needs of her loved ones above her own.
For nearly 35 cherished years, she stood beside her beloved husband, Garland Ross, crafting a life filled with love and laughter. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family. Debbie is survived by her children: Ruth Ann Henkaline (Jeff), Michelle Sue Richardson (Luke), Jon Isam Ross, John Michael Ross, Jennifer Reed (Jonathan), and Brad Jonathan Jordan (Connie). Her heart swelled with joy watching her family grow, and she was especially blessed to be a grandmother to her numerous grandchildren—Alaysia Heasley (Garrett), Jamie Henkaline, Leighandra Murray (Chris), MacKenzie Toner, Jordyn Lesher (Gage), Koryn Richardson, Kylie Richardson, Noah Ross, Landon Ross, Kaitlyn Browning, Tyler Reed, Cameron Reed, Shelby Jordan, and Montana Cavins—as well as a great-grandmother to Everett Heasley, Verity Heasley, Jaxson Salobeck, Christopher Murray Jr., Joseph Murray, Myla Lesher, Walker Lesher, Nikolai Ross, Madilynn Delong, Ryker Morgan, and Roman Morgan. With each new addition to the family, her love only multiplied, creating a legacy of warmth and support.
Debbie shared a special bond with her siblings—Mary Back, Elvie Turner (Rodney), Dixie Conrad (Jay), Dorothy Baker (Jack), Billie Gregory (Tim), Julie Bogan (Ernie), and James Harr (Jill)—who cherished her deeply. She also leaves behind brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including Harlan Ross (Marsha), Kathy Sams (Ed), and Wiley Riggs. Her extended family will remember her for her kindness and the light she brought into their lives.
While Debbie's devotion to her family was unmatched, her interests outside the home added yet another dimension to her vibrant spirit. She held a special love for the warm Florida sun and the beach, where she found peace and joy. Animals of all kinds captured her heart, as they reflected her gentle nature and zest for life. Debbie was a very kind woman who absolutely never had a bad word to say about anyone.
Debbie's memory will be cherished by many beloved friends, including Martha Hess and Ruth V., who experienced her kindness and friendship throughout the years. Yet, she also leaves behind a poignant absence for those who preceded her in death: her parents, Jess and Thelma (Wright) Harr; her son, John Allen Ross; sisters Dora Harr, Lisa Harr, Garnett Riggs, and Wanda Stephenson; and brothers-in-law Charles Back and Ray Stephenson.
A visitation will be held in honor of Debbie on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:00 PM. This is a time for family and friends to come together to share memories and reflect on her beautiful life.
Debbie's household was unique. She and Garland resided with her daughter, Michelle and son-in-law, Luke. Luke received a cancer diagnosis only one short month after Debbie received hers. Debbie was a devoted caretaker who continued to care for others with love and strength through her final days. The household continues to support Luke through his treatments and chemotherapy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests gift cards to Bob Evans, Waffle House, Perkins or similar restaurants to help provide meals and comfort during this difficult time. Your generosity would be deeply appreciated by the family as they navigate this challenging time.
