Debra “Debbie” Lynne (Hutson) Shively, 70, of Indianapolis, passed away on November 28, 2025. She was born on October 18, 1955, in Illinois to Richard and Vivian Hutson. Debbie grew up alongside her sisters, Kim (Scottie) Hutson and Kathy (Jeff) Koczenasz, forming lifelong bonds grounded in love, humor, and loyalty.
Debbie dedicated many years of her career to Eastwood Middle School, where she served as an administrative assistant and treasurer. She loved her work and cherished the friendships she formed with staff, parents, and students. She retired earlier this year, celebrating a career marked by dependability, warmth, and genuine care for her school community.
She married Rick Shively in 1979, and together they raised three children who were the center of her world: Ashley (Ben) Cochran, Jennifer (Joe) VanDeusen, and Steve (Hollie) Shively. Debbie was a fiercely devoted mother and an endlessly doting grandmother. Her grandchildren—Zephram and Alanna, and Blakely and Kenzington—were her greatest joy, and she loved nothing more than spoiling them.
Family traditions and time together meant everything to her, especially the yearly lake vacations where the whole family gathered. Those days, filled with laughter, sunshine, and shared meals, were among her happiest.
Debbie is survived by her parents; her children; grandchildren; sisters; and extended family who loved her deeply. She will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and the fierce love she poured into her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation—an organization dedicated to supporting addiction recovery and healing: https://www.hazeldenbettyford.org/ways-to-give
