Ms. Debra Susan Slaughter

Ms. Debra Susan Slaughter, age 67, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Columbus Hospice. A graveside memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 26th at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in La Fayette, Al. Rev. Tim Gordon will officiate the service. Debra was born December 23, 1957 in La Fayette, AL. She was the daughter of the late Robert Elgin Slaughter and the late Helen Holmes Slaughter. She graduated from Southland Academy and earned a Bachelors Degree from Georgia Southwestern State University and earned a Masters Degree from Virginia Common Wealth. She enjoyed sports especially softball and basketball in high school. Debra worked for and retired from the Department of Corrections. She was a die-hard Auburn football season ticket holder. Survivors include her brother-in-law, George Johnson of Americus; her nephew Ryan Johnson of Thomaston, GA and her great nephew, Wilkes Johnson. In addition to her parents Debra was preceded in death by her sister Sandra Johnson. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Harris County Humane Society 3938 Barnes Mill Road Hamilton, GA 31811.
