Declan James Edward Torry

Declan was born in Williamsburg, Virginia, spent his childhood in Roanoke, Virginia, and had lived in the Tidewater area since 2016. Declan lived his short life to the fullest. He had a warm smile and kind spirit. Declan loved people profoundly without judgement and with unabandoned acceptance. He was fiercely protective of his family, especially his sisters, and was a loyal friend who will be remembered for providing support and encouragement. Declan had a servant's heart. Whether it was planting roses in his grandparents' garden, slipping a cousin ten dollars, buying snacks and gifts for friends, or even just giving a simple shoulder massage, he was always finding ways to be of service to his loved ones. Declan also had a tremendous sense of humor. He was constantly cracking jokes or being goofy, often to lighten the mood or lift the spirits of those around him. From a young age, Declan had a strong affinity for anything that can move on water or wheels, the faster the better. He was always yelling "go faster!" and spent hours driving his toy boat in any pool, lake, or body of water he could find. Once he was old enough, Declan loved to take his sisters and cousins (and really any willing passenger) out for rides on the ranger and jet ski to test their comfort level with speed. On occasion, Declan would slow down to watch the sunset or take his grandparents on a moonlight boat cruise on the lake. If he wasn't on the move, Declan loved being in the kitchen. From waking up early to make breakfast burritos for his swim team coaches in elementary school, to working in food services at Busch Gardens as a teen, to his most recent years working in a restaurant, cooking was a passion that brought many moments of connection for him. Declan especially enjoyed cooking with his dad and grandfather. Declan is survived by his parents Ché and Lindsay Torry and his sisters Brynn and Camden; his grandparents Jim and Mary Ann McAden, Monte and Joni Torry, and Lynn Hosegood; his great grandparents Bob and Shelby McAden, and David Parsons; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who adored him. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Ted Hosegood. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Manna Church, 401 Lucas Creek Rd, Newport News, Virginia.
