Dee “Butch” Bolt III, age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, in Sellersburg, Indiana. Born on September 20, 1945, in San Francisco, California, Butch was the beloved son of the late Dee “Smokey” Bolt Jr. and Janice Bolt.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, a Free Mason, and a Shriner, Butch lived a life of dedication, service, and adventure. After his time in the military, he went on to enjoy a long and successful career with Ford Motor Company, where he worked as a dedicated electrician for over 30 years. Known for his strong work ethic and bigger-than-life personality, Butch made lasting friendships wherever he went.
Butch was a true free spirit, passionate about motorcycles and the open road. Whether riding his Harley Davidson or his Gold Wing, he found joy in traveling with his bike gang to Daytona Bike Week and countless other destinations across the country. His love for travel was matched only by his love for people—he never met a stranger and could light up any room with his presence.
Known as the life of the party, Butch loved music, especially rock and roll and disco. He spent countless hours DJing events, entertaining friends, and creating memories filled with laughter and dancing. In his spare time, he enjoyed building and living at his lake house on Nolin Lake, rebuilding computers and vintage arcade games, and collecting unique memorabilia that reflected his eclectic spirit.
Above all, Butch was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He cherished his family deeply and created a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable stories.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Semper Fi, Butch. Ride on.
Butch is preceded in death by his loving wife, Judith Kopp Bolt; parents, Dee “Smokey” Bolt Jr. and Janice Mae Myer Bolt; son, Dee Bolt IV; and a nephew, Chad Davis.
Left to cherish his memory, Butch is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Borger (Jason); 3 grandchildren, Conner Bolt, Ryleigh Brown, and Tristin Borger; 2 sisters, Pam Davis and Jillene Owen; 3 nephews, Michael Owen (Anna), Scott Owen (Marianne), and Russ Davis (Sheila); 4 great-nephews, Russell “BJ” Davis, Chad Davis, Paxton Owen and Parker Owen; 3 great-nieces, Teagan Owen, Blakely Owen, and Chasity Davis; and a host of close friends.
