Norbert was born the son of Norbert and Ruth (Gross) Shoumaker, Sr. on September 6, 1955 in Georgia. He graduated from North High School and went straight to bootcamp to prepare for his service in the United States Marine Corps.
Dee was born the daughter of Sidney and Noreen (Reit) Jongma on January 22, 1959 in Sioux County, Iowa. She attended North High School.
Norbert married Dee on December 19, 1982. They made their home in Lawton, Iowa. Norbert worked for BNSF railroad until his retirement in 2020. Dee owned and operated Custom Creations, where she was a pillar in the community, creating custom screen print and embroidered hats, shirts, coats and more for the entire community and surrounding area. She also did alterations to prom dresses, wedding dresses, and other items for years.
Norbert enjoyed doing whatever Dee told him to do! They went to Sioux City Explorers games, and she enjoyed altering and repairing their uniforms. Dee enjoyed traveling with “the girls,” while Norbert looked forward to Wednesday handball and El Tap with Doc. Dee enjoyed decorating their home and refinishing furniture. She collected teapots and sewing machines while he collected quarters and Pronto soda cups, but above all else was family. They took every opportunity to spend time with their children and grandchildren. Attending all of their grandchildren’s events was very important to them.
Norbert and Dee are survived by their children, Norbert (Sarah) Shoumaker III, Jonathan (Cris) Shoumaker, Justin Helget, and Rachel (Casey Blackmore) Shoumaker; grandchildren, Rhett, Ridge, Lydia, Allie, Hannah, Henni, and baby girl due in July; Norbert’s siblings, Jeff Shoumaker, CJ (Judy) Shoumaker, and Ann Peterson; Dee’s siblings, Dwayne Jongma, Denise (Don) Monroe, and DeAnne Adams; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
They were preceded in death by their parents; Dee’s sister, Darla Montgomery and her sister-in-law, Mary Jongma.
Norbert and Dee entered heaven’s gates alongside their grandson, Carson.
