Meyer Brothers Morningside ChapelJo Ann (Bearce) Bourret, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2026, at Mitchell House (Hospice) in Sioux City, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. A private family burial will take place earlier that day at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m., with family present to greet friends and loved ones. A dinner will follow the service for those who wish to remain. Online condolences may be shared at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Jo was born on August 15, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Eleanor and Charles Bearce. She met her husband, Ron Bourret, while working as the athletic secretary at Morningside College. Ron was attending Morningside and was the college’s swim coach. They were married on June 4, 1960, and shared 56 years of marriage, raising two daughters, Stacy and Shelly.
Throughout their life together, Jo worked alongside Ron in business and held positions with two Hallmark retail stores and Hospice of Central Florida. Following Ron’s death in 2016, Jo returned to Sioux City from Orlando, Florida, where she lived independently for the next ten years.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, and her parents, Eleanor and Charles Bearce.
She is survived by her daughters, Stacy Dorsey (Jon Dorsey) of Moreno Valley, California, and Shelly Ackerman (Brock Ackerman) of Sioux City, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren: Brian Kalousek (Holley) and their children Charlotte and Finn; Scott Kalousek (Hope) and their children Chandler, Addison, and Everley; Tyler Dorsey and his children Maverix and Grace; Evan Dorsey and his daughter Kailee; Danielle Dorsey; Adam Ackerman (Ashtyn) and their children Jordan and Kyler; and Megan Kirwan (Joel Kirwan).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mitchell House, 6140 Morningside Avenue, Sioux City, IA 51106, or Hospice of the Midwest, 304 West 28th Street, Sioux City, IA 51104.
