Deena Chafetz Obituary
OCTOBER 13, 1965 - NOVEMBER 14, 2023
Santa Fe - Deena Chafetz, celebrated chef and teacher at the Santa Fe School of Cooking, died at home after several years living with metastatic breast cancer.
Originally from Connecticut and New York, she moved to Santa Fe in the early 1990s and made her home here. She opened restaurants across the country and likely cooked in, or influenced, all the restaurants you enjoy in town.
She is survived by her wife, Ariel Gore, stepchildren Maximilian Gore-Perez and Maia Swift, brother and sister-in-law Stuart Chafetz and Ann Krinitsky, and many loving friends, family, and colleagues.
Her last words were too chef-like for the newspaper, but she would like to remind you that most of your cooking problems could be solved with more salt. In lieu of flowers, please be kind to each other.
