BURLINGTON- DeEtta M. Browne age 85, passed away on January 12th, 2026, at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

She was born on June 22nd, 1940, in Poughkeepsie NY, to the late Willard Browne and Ruth Cowl-Wright.

DeEtta was a remarkable woman, celebrated for her elegance and the essence of class, often charming those around her with her radiant smile and love for the color red. Known affectionately for her fondness of the song "Lady in Red," she cherished moments that brought joy, laughter, and warmth into her life. Her love for cats brought her immeasurable comfort, reflecting her nurturing nature and compassionate heart. An independent spirit, DeEtta pursued her passion for cosmetology, earning a master's degree and establishing a successful career as a hairdresser. She took great pride in her work, cultivating a community of loyal clients who became friends and advocates. Her knack for connecting with people and making them feel special was a hallmark of her profession, and it was done with warmth. Her strong Christian faith guided her life and provided a foundation of strength that she shared with everyone around her.

DeEtta enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, whether it was partaking in teatime or treating herself to a Starbucks Frappuccino. She had a love for M&M's that remained an endearing trait throughout her life, proving to herself that nothing could prevent her from enjoying those little treats, attesting that joy could be found in even the smallest of things. Her independence and resilience were admired by many, making her an inspiration to those who had the privilege of knowing her. DeEtta's life journey spanned several states, including New York, Vermont, Oklahoma, California, Arizona, and Florida, each place enriched by her presence and indomitable spirit.

DeEtta is survived by her daughter, Dawn Costa and her husband Louie; grandchildren, Daniel Costa and his wife Sarah, and Victoria Costa and her significant other Connor Ryea; great grandchildren, Natalie Costa, and Finneas Costa. In addition to her parents, DeEtta was predeceased by her brother, David Charles Browne.
