Delbert John Barnickle Jr., 80, born April 1, 1944, in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Delbert J. Barnickle, Sr. and the late Helen (Weber) Barnickle.
John passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2025. He leaves his beloved wife Melanie (Trauthwein) Barnickle; his son Shawn D. Barnickle (Cindy); his grandchildren, Courtney, Mylie and Johnnie Barnickle, of Edgewater, Florida. He is also survived by his sister Jean (Barnickle) Thompson (Dan) of Hamilton, Ohio; his nieces in Edgewater, Florida, Diana Stavros (John), Alexandra (Stavros) Foote (Andrew); his nephews in Hamilton, Ohio, Brian Preston (Annette), Jim Ivers (Lori), Allen Preston (Kim) and Todd Preston (Angela). He is predeceased by his sister, Phyllis (Barnickle) Preston of Hamilton, Ohio.
He served in the Marine Corp for 4 years, 3 months and 17 days...as he always stated with a smile! John worked at Sutherland Lumber Company in Ohio and was transferred to Missouri. He worked for the Kansas City, Kansas school district as a carpenter. He and Melanie retired and moved to Florida in 2011 where they spent 14 wonderful years.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach. He was a member of the Am Vets Post #2, Moose Lodge, Eagles, Dolphins and VFW. John will be remembered for his ever-welcoming smile, love for his family and friends, his kindness and generosity to all. John was a wonderful person we had some fun times at the pool he will be missed by many . Dave enjoyed drinking cold beer with him at the pool his hospitality was great, We enjoyed his hospitality with him and Mel. great people and good friends. May he rest in peace gone but won't be forgotten. Kathy &David Wachsman
