Karin Fischer Chambers, 91, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026 at John Knox Village,
Orange City, FL.
Born May 24, 1934 in
Lancaster, PA she was the first child of Harold and Mary E (Hamilton) Fischer.
Karin attended Lancaster Country Day School. She loved learning, playing field hockey and basketball. She continued her education at Ohio Wesleyan University where she majored in English and Political Science. Delta Gamma was the sorority she chose to join for their dedication to friendship, educational interests and support for the visually impaired. While at Ohio Wesleyan, she met her future husband, although their relationship didn't develop until years later when their paths crossed again. After graduating, Karin worked for the CIA and lived in Georgetown. We have speculated about what her responsibilities were while at the CIA, all she shared was that she made multiple presentations to President Eisenhower. While living and working in Washington, Tom Chambers who she initially met at Ohio Wesleyan, reached out to her and their relationship developed.
Tom and Karin were married October 25, 1958. They initially settled in
Towson, MD where they welcomed their three children. In spring of 1968 they were one of the first 100 families to move to the newly planned community of
Columbia, MD. Karin became a Pre-school teacher in Columbia. Additionally she served as PTA President, was an advocate for music education and the arts in general. Later was presented the opportunity to run her own business, she purchased Dymalon- John-Hughes, wholesaler of materials for packing, shipping and display.
When she and Tom retired they moved to Florida, first to Ocala, next to Beverly Hills, and finally New Smyra Beach where they spent many years. Tom and Karin joined the Smyra Yacht Club, Karin served as the President of SYC Ladies. Tom and Karin loved to travel, they visited many countries and made many friends through their travels. In 2014, Tom and Karin moved to John Knox Village in
Orange City, FL where they met many new friends and enjoyed many concerts and other activities including bridge.
In addition to her parents, Karin is predeceased by her husband, Thomas P Chambers.
Karin is survived by their three children, Ellen & Dr. Charles Doring of Laytonsville, MD, Ann Chambers of Deland, FL, David and Marybeth Chambers of Glens Falls, NY, grandson, Brett Thomas Chambers of Glens Falls, NY, sister-in-law, Marcia Mather of Wellesley, MA, brother, Harold (Hal) Fischer, sister, Mary Lynne Bauer.
There will be no services. Burial will be held privately in MD for the family.
