Gary Joseph LeClair, 80, of Debary Florida, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, in Altamonte Springs Florida after a long battle with cancer.
Born on September 5, 1945, in
Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Gary was the son of Gordon and Lillian LeClair. From an early age, he was hardworking, willing to help others and prioritized his family, traits that would remain throughout his life.
Gary proudly served in the United States Navy for 7 years. He was assigned to the nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Jack SSN-05 where he worked on the mechanical and propulsion systems essential to submarine operations. Gary was recognized for his professionalism and dedication with the national defense service medal, the good conduct medal, and the meritorious unit commendation. His service reflected commitment, skill, and quiet pride supporting his ship and fellow sailors that carried into every chapter of life that followed.
After his military service, Gary worked for Vermont Yankee for over 30 years. He was a longtime member and volunteer of the Elks, managed the local snowmobile club, and was always the first to lend a hand to a friend or neighbor in need. Blessed with an early retirement, Gary and his wife Cheryl moved to Alburgh Vermont, where he fully embraced the life, he loved.
Gary found joy in golfing, fishing, hunting, diving, and tending to his beautiful garden. One of his favorite hobbies was winemaking, and he took immense pride in sharing his creations with friends. In his later years, Gary spent time in Florida, where he enjoyed the sunshine, golfing, walking with friends, and continuing to help his community and neighbors at every opportunity.
Those who know Gary will remember his deep love of nature and adventure, and his belief in teaching and sharing skills. Whether he was baiting a hook, changing a tire, or showing someone how to safely operate a boat, Gary shared his knowledge with enthusiasm.
Gary's love of music was ever-present, with songs from every era and genre filling his home and cars. His carefully curated collection of mixed tapes will remain a cherished and lasting legacy.
Gary is survived by his wife of 58 years Cheryl (Moore) of Debary Fl, Sister-in-law Barbara Moore of Debary FL, His daughter Valerie LeClair of Fairfax Vermont and son Garett LeClair and spouse Jennifer of Easton PA. Grandchildren Gage Gibbons, Liam Gibbons, Madison Gibbons, Austin LeClair (Roxanna Abbasi), Braylee LeClair (Jacob Roscoe). As the oldest of ten he is survived by eight siblings, Bob LeClair (Rose), Dave LeClair (Mary), Mary Kay Falk (Gene), Dick LeClair (LuAnn), Pat Roberge (Bob), Alan LeClair (Cindy), Brian LeClair (Lisa), Ann Fuelle (Scott), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Lillian (Brice) LeClair and brother Mike LeClair.
