He was drafted during the Korean War on 22 April 1953 and served in the 148th Infantry Regiment in the United States Army until 21 April 1955 receiving an honorable discharge. Delbert spent his retirement on his prized 250-acre farm with his wife and daughter Rebecca. Although formally retired, he continued to raise beef cattle and always had plenty of projects. Delbert was a tough, strong, and stubborn man who enjoyed making people smile with his never-ending pranks and great humor. He was a hard worker who was creative with welding and had the know how to fabricate and fix most anything. He liked to play billiards and snooker, but his favorite were cards which he would play with his wife, Rebecca, and anyone who visited at the farm. Throughout his life he became a master outdoorsman and cherished the time he spent with family and friends hunting and fishing. Delbert's wife Darlene passed in February of 2024 after 64 blessed years of marriage.
