Delbert Linn Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 8, 2025.
Delbert Richard "Doc" Linn, Jr., of Edwardsville, Illinois, passed away suddenly on December 5, 2025 at the age of 78. He was a career Army veteran who proudly served his country and achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Two. Doc carried his dedication to service throughout his life, and his gregarious nature endeared him to so many. A private ceremony will be held at a later date.

Born and raised in Edwardsville, Doc grew into a man with many passions. He loved fishing, talking cars of every make and era, cooking and frequenting local restaurants, and once retired, hunting for bargains at yard sales with an enthusiasm that could rival any professional treasure seeker. A lifelong collector, Doc gathered books, movies, music, and memorable odds and ends, surrounding himself with the stories and comforts he loved. Classic films and college football were among his favorite pastimes, and he never turned down the chance to rewatch an old favorite.

In recent months, Doc relocated to the Illinois Veterans' Home in Quincy, where he quickly found friendship and camaraderie among fellow veterans. He often spoke gratefully of the attentive staff and the sense of community he felt there.

Doc is preceded in death by his parents, Delbert Richard Linn, Sr. and Emma Jean Linn (née Closterman), both of Edwardsville. He is survived by his brother, Eddie Ray Linn of Edwardsville; his four children, Michael Jeremy Linn (Tiffany) of Greenville, IL, Cynthia Linn Jorgenson (Charlie) of Edwardsville, Jean Ann Linn and Barbara Renate Linn of Auburn, AL; and his granddaughter, Alessa Danae Linn of Greenville, IL.

Doc will be remembered for his service to his country, and his wonderfully eclectic spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
