Delbert Orin Nyhous

Delbert Orin Nyhous, 82, of International Falls, Minnesota, passed peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Rainy Lake Medical Center with loved ones by his side.

Delbert was born March 24, 1943, in Deer River, Minnesota to Embert and Clara (Nelson) Nyhous- the youngest of seven children.

He married Lynn Hughes on June 8, 1968. Together, they had two children: one son, Duane and one daughter, JoEll.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and was most proud of being in the 173rd Airbourne. Delbert always said, "the safest place was to jump out of some of the planes." He was honorably discharged in 1964.

Being a true salesman, he sold cars for many years before following his true passion, Rainy Lake, so he bought the Outpost Saloon in 1980. He ran the Outpost until health issues became too much. He retired to enjoy life which entailed fishing, hunting, trapping in the Northwoods, and being at his shack in Big Falls.

When the snow started to fall, he would head to his winter home in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, BCS. Here, he could put his feet in the sand, watch the sunrise over the Sea of Cortes, and catch the big fish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Embert and Clara; son, Duane Nyhous; grandson, Dylan Nyhous; brothers, Gordon Nyhous and Maurice Nyhous; and sisters, Emoline Furey, Irene Erickson, and Lorrine Hare.

Delbert is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughter, JoEll (Gerald) Jones; beloved grandchildren, Gordon Elmberg, McKenzie Elmberg; and Chase Jones; his great-grandchildren whom he loved, Maliha WhiteEagle, Jami Ray Nyhous, Hunter Strawser, Harlan Overson, and Kelsey Jones; sister, Jeanette Hare; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Interment will take place at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Emily, Minnesota.
