Delbert Duane Sheeder, 92, of Perry, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and no formal services are planned. Private Family Burial will be held at the Dallas Township Cemetery in rural Dawson. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
Delbert was born on October 21, 1933, on the family farm in Guthrie County to Ira and Vera (Lower) Sheeder. He attended Bear Grove #6 School near Guthrie Center and graduated in 1952. In 1955, he entered the United States Army, serving from October 9, 1955 until October 9, 1957.
On September 18, 1954, Delbert married Ilene Mae Crowder in Guthrie Center. The couple later moved to Wisconsin, where they owned and operated Hair Clippers until 1968. In January 1970, they settled in Perry, Iowa, where they made their longtime home.
Delbert worked many years at Oscar Mayer, farmed, and did tree spraying. Throughout his life, he always held at least two jobs at a time; he also worked for the City of Perry at the wastewater plant, American Motors/Ramblers, and Andi’s Hair Clippers. Delbert was known for his hard work and for always keeping busy. He enjoyed a lifetime of hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene Sheeder of Perry; daughter, Barbara Lynn Chevalier of Perry; sons, Douglas (Wini) Sheeder of Wisconsin and Dan (Deb) Sheeder of Perry; 9 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Delbert was preceded in death by his siblings, Lela Heckman, William Leon Sheeder, Kenny Sheeder, Loa Benton, Lucy Benton, Robert Sheeder, and Nioma Sheeder.
