Delbert 'Dutch' Roy Waggamon, age 90 of Cridersville, a beloved husband,
father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on
Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement Community.
He was born on October 15, 1933 in Easton, Ohio to the late Perry and
Verna Hatfield Waggamon. On August 18, 1956 he married Elane Kay Bilger
who passed on May 10, 2005. On May 26, 2007 he married Joyce Hickok. Joyce passed on January 24, 2021.
Dutch graduated from Doylestown High School in 1950 and continued his
education at Otterbein College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1955. Later, he achieved a master's degree from Miami University in
1963.
Dutch dedicated an impressive 50 years of his life to the Boy Scouts of
America, leaving an indelible mark as a devoted scout leader, instructor
at the National Camping School, and recipient of the prestigious Silver
Beaver Award. His passion for education extended beyond the wilderness,
as he taught high school biology and chemistry for 30 years at
Dixon/Eaton City Schools in
Eaton, Ohio.
An avid card player, Dutch found joy in playing Euchre and Bridge. He
was the inaugural manager of the Eaton Community Pool, where he
contributed to the community's well-being and leisure. Dutch was an
active member of the United Church of Christ in
Eaton, Ohio, where he
found solace and community.
Family was at the core of Dutch's heart, and he relished every moment
spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His
love for camping and the great outdoors was evident in the countless
family adventures he orchestrated.
Dutch's legacy is one of service, education, and love. He will be
remembered for his unwavering commitment to the Boy Scouts, his impact
as an educator, and his ability to find joy in simple pleasures. Dutch
leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories, and he will be dearly missed
by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his 4 children – Jeff (Rebecca) Waggamon of Delphos,
OH; Jerry (Stephanie) Waggamon of Sterling Heights, MI; Jenny Hilbert of
Greensboro, NC; Jon (Beth) Waggamon of Eaton, OH; 2 stepchildren –
Debbie (Ed) Arnold of Pickerington, OH; David (Denise) Cox of Radnor, OH; 17 grandchildren – Ben (Amanda) Waggamon of Spencerville, OH; Nick (Jaki)
Waggamon of Wilmington, OH; Ramel (Apryl) Wyke of Honolulu, HI; Seth Waggamon of Delphos, OH; Scott Waggamon of Ft. Wayne, IN; Joanna
Waggamon of Toledo, OH; James Waggamon of Toledo, OH; Liz (Darryl) Gouin
of Warren, MI; Katie (Josh) Stotts of St. Heights, MI; Molly (Scott)
Prater of Shelby Township, MI; Cindy Waggamon of St. Heights, MI; Rob
Hilbert of McLeansville, NC; Ashley (Jordan) McCall of Kernersville, NC;
Danielle (Ryan) House of Greenville, NC; Chelsea (Cody) Lane of Eaton,
OH; Stacey (Darren) Patrick of Delaware, Megan (Casey) Roshon of Gallion, OH;
OH; 25 great grandchildren, and 2 siblings – Ervin (Ruth) Waggamon of Doylestown, OH; and Marie (David) Schneider of Cincinnati,
OH.
He was preceded in death by a brother – Glenn Waggamon and a great
grandchild – Aveyn Wyke.
A celebration of Dutch's life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 in
Eaton, Ohio.
