Delfina Cuellar Whitwell was born on December 23, 1949, to Arthur and Claudia Cuellar. She passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025. Born and raised in Dallas, Delfina was part of the El Chico Mexican Restaurant Family. After coming to Longview, Delfina worked for Longview ISD and spent many years working at the Gregg County Courthouse while also spending time as a legal assistant at the Holmes-Moore Law Firm. Delfina was the proud mother of Matthew Smith and stepmother of Scott Whitwell, and she dearly loved her grandchildren- Rachael, Alexander, Mason, Hadley, and Ada. After marrying Gary Whitwell, she was a beloved fixture at many school events of the schools Gary led. She often said dinner and a show with Gary meant a ball game and a hotdog from the concession stand. She got to know and help many of Gary's students with words of encouragement and sugar cookies. Delfina was loyal and supportive of her many friends, and she especially loved her church family at Trinity Episcopal Church. Delfina bravely battled multiple health issues for many years. The family extends their deepest thanks to Lynne Abernathy, Janis Canion, Judy Ingram, and Steve Lindsey for their steadfast love and support of Delfina and to the incredibly caring staff of Hospice of East Texas. Funeral Services will be at 11:00am, at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, August 16, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity School of Texas, or East Texas CASA.
