Delia Damiano, 85, of West Harrison, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Delia was born on February 24, 1940, in Guardia Lombardi, Italy, to the late Caterina (née Petriello) and Angelo Valvano. She married her beloved husband, Orazio Damiano, on August 10, 1958, in their hometown of Guardia Lombardi. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in love, hard work, and family, and were blessed with four children.
After moving to the United States, Delia dedicated 42 years of her life to caring for others as a Nurse's Aide at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in White Plains. Her kind heart, and tireless compassion brought comfort to many. She retired in 2008, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication.
Delia's heart belonged to her family. She found her greatest joy in gathering everyone around the table - cooking, baking, and feeding the people she loved most. Her homemade meals were made with pure love and became the center of countless cherished memories. She loved to dance, entertain, and play bingo, always bringing laughter and light wherever she went.
Delia had an infectious smile and a laugh that filled the room. She had a gift for making people feel loved and welcome - no one ever left her home hungry or without a smile. Her warmth, generosity, and love will live forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
She is survived by three of her children: Maria (Antonio) Portanova, Rocco Damiano, and Catarina (Robert) Cirillo, all of West Harrison, NY; her cherished grandchildren: Christine (Joe) Dizenzo, Brianna Cirillo (Anthony Zazzarino), and Robert Cirillo; and her two precious great-grandchildren: Emily Dizenzo and Christian Zazzarino. She is also survived by her sisters Rosa LaMarca, Giovanna Valvano, and Giuseppina Petriello who will forever hold her memory close.
In addition to her parents and husband, Delia was predeceased by her beloved son, Michael Damiano; granddaughter, Melissa Portanova; brother, Rocco Valvano; and sisters, Pasqualina Castellano and Maria DiPlacido.
Delia was the heart and soul of her family - a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love will continue to guide them every day. She will be remembered for her strength, her laughter, her stories, and the love she poured into everyone she met.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Delia's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
