Delmar E. Merricle

Delmar E. Merricle, age 76, passed away at 11:14 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the Wapakoneta Manor. He was born April 5, 1949, in Lima, Ohio, the son of the late Delmar L. and Dorothy (Doseck) Merricle. On June 5, 1971, he married Mary Jane Behm Miller and she preceded him in death on June 11, 2025.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine A. Miller, of Newport News, VA; 2 grandchildren, Brandon M. Egler, Hampton, VA, Brianne N. Egler, Newport News, VA, a sister, Linda Merricle, Lima, OH; several nieces and nephews including Norman (Sydney) Koenig, John Strayer, Allen (LeeAnn) Merricle, Todd Merricle, Gina (Donnavee) Cox, and Russell (Sarah) Patterson; 2 brothers-in-law, John and Dick Behm.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred (Diane) Merricle, and 2 sisters, Martha Strayer and Becky (Rick) Patterson.

Delmar retired from Plastipak, Jackson Center. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta; Wapakoneta Eagles Aeire #691; and the Wapakoneta American Legion #330 He also served as a volunteer fireman with the Wapakoneta City Fire Department. Delmar was a member of the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post 8445, where he was Post Commander, 1976-1977, 1993-1195, 1996-1997, and 2014-2021. In 2018 while Post Commander, the Post was awarded "Outstanding Service Award", he was also the first Commander to lead the Post to "All-American" status. He enjoyed spending time at McDonalds with his buddies.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Eley Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with Chaplain Jim Fast officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post 8445.
