Delphine Scriven Obituary

Delphine (Plasse) Scriven of Whitman passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. She was a gifted artist, avid reader, seamstress, costume designer, birdwatcher, and genealogy enthusiast. Delphine had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and was the go-to source for information and trivia. Before there was Google, there was "Call Del". Born September 17, 1937, to Joseph and Isabella Plasse, Delphine attended Whitman Public Schools before transferring to and graduating from Spring Valley High School in San Diego, Calif., in 1955. After many years of selflessly providing for her family, Delphine, determined as ever, earned her driver's license in her mid-50s and rejoined the workforce at Blue Cross Blue Shield. Delphine was the wife of the late Edwin A. Scriven Jr. for 58 years. She was the devoted and much-loved mother of 8 children, Edwin A. III (Deborah), Susan, Steven (Kelly), Michael, Mark (Brian), Terry, Christopher (Brooke), and Sheryl (Paul). Delphine was the cherished Gramma to 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She was an adored aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy and was predeceased by her siblings, Joseph, Lorraine, Lloyd, Jeannette, Paul, and brother-in-law, Joseph. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Lanie Scriven and Frances McKenna and her dear friend Diane Bleakney. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, March 12, from 4-8 p.m. at the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 13, in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman, at 9 a.m. Burial at Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452. For directions or to send a condolence, visit www.mackinnonfuneral.com.

I could never forget to pray for Del even one day for what she had done for me during her life. And I know all of you will never forget her. Del is a Saint in Heaven who prays for all of us. I'm positive of that. I will never forget to pray for all of you. You will never know what you all did for me. You let the love out of my heart and showed me how to love. God bless all of you.

My heart is with your Moms. I don't know if you children remember me but I took (some of you to the beach) and to the Holy Ghost Church on Sunday mornings. You all were my second family and I love each and every one of you. I had a date with your Mom on Friday evenings to play scrabble and drink coke. It was the highlight of my week. Your Mom made me a mermaid costume one year and I still have a picture of it. She was an inspiration to me and I hope that you all will never ever forget her because she was #1 in my life. I also loved her parents who were so gentle and kind. She will be awaiting your arrival in Heaven. I am sure of that. God love you all. I have never let a day go by without praying for the "Scriven" family. Love and prayers Lucy (Simonis) Allen

Everything that's good and decent was always in her heart; never a bad word about anyone. She was always there for me thruout my life--no matter what. I know that you will always be in my heart Del--with every beat know that it's my way of saying I love you, honor you and will never forget that smile. To her children, grandchildren & great-granchildren -- she loved you without end and you are all so fortunate to have her in you because that in itself lets you honor her by carrying on that love to your children.

Love,
Lanie
