Demetrios (Jimmy) Tampasis

DEMETRIOS (JIMMY) TAMPASIS - age 73, of Knoxville, a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away suddenly Friday May 28. 2010 at his home. Jimmy was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Jimmy, a native of Greece, was a longtime Knoxville restaurateur having owned, The Open Kitchen, Charcoal Hearth and Jimmy’s. Before retiring he owned a video store-Video Knight. Prior to coming to the U.S in 1962, arriving in Roanoke, Virginia, he served two years in the Greek Army and was an electrician by occupation. He followed his family to Knoxville in 1969. Jimmy is survived by his loving family: wife of 39 years, Sophia Ferousis Tampasis; daughter and son-in-law, Artemis and Peter Dedes; son, Ari Tampasis; grandchildren, Grace Vallante and George Dedes; brother, George Tampasis of Greece; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers: Mike Nassios, George Nassios, Kosta Nassios, Sammy Peroulas, Charlie Peroulas, George Peroulas and Sam Keramidas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919.
