New Iberia – A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Loreauville for Denis Dugas, Jr., 95, who passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Garden View Assisted Living.

Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A rosary, led by Ben LeBleu, will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Friday.

A native of Loreauville and resident of New Iberia, Denis Dugas, Jr. was born on June 1, 1930, to the late Denis “Du Du” Dugas, Sr. and Stella “Te Chu” LeBlanc Dugas. He lived a life that embodied dedication, kindness, and service to others.

Denis proudly served our country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. His commitment to his country laid the foundation for a life rich in purpose and contribution.

Denis dedicated the majority of his professional career to Gulf States Utilities, where he worked as a Right of Way Representative, culminating over 31 years of service before retiring in 1986. His exceptional skills and unwavering work ethic did not go unnoticed; even after retirement, Denis continued to make an impact in the industry as a Landman until 2011.

Denis was a man of the people. He was heavily involved in local and state politics, always striving to make his community a better place. He understood the power of engagement and was passionate about ensuring that every voice mattered. His enduring belief in civic duty and community involvement truly shaped the lives of those who knew him.

Denis was not just a remarkable figure in his professional and civic life; he was also known as the sweetest man to know. His warm smile, gentle spirit, and compassionate nature touched everyone around him.

Mr. Dugas is survived by son, Peter Dugas (Jennifer) of Alexandria, VA; stepson, Tim Hance (Elizabeth) of Mandeville; stepdaughter, Nancy Hance Fuselier of New Iberia; grandchildren, Marie Broussard, Kellan Dugas, and Tenley Dugas; and nieces, Donna Broussard Angers (Patrick) and Simone Broussard Louviere; and nephew, Kerry Broussard (Marilyn).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary-Bert Thornton Dugas; and a sister, Joyce Dugas Broussard.

Mr. Dugas will forever be remembered for his remarkable ability to listen, support, and uplift others. May he rest in peace.
