Denise Bowen Obituary

Denise Evette Bowen, 66 of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, passed away on June 2, 2024, in Port Saint Lucie Florida. She was born on June 3, 1957, in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

Denise grew up in Markham, Illinois a south suburb of Chicago. Despite the challenges faced by the Black community in the 60s and 70s, her strong Christian values, instilled within her by the Church of God and Christ along with the teaching from her mother, she excelled in both religion and educational studies. With her relentless work drive, she proudly received her high school diploma at Bremen Highschool in Midlothian, Illinois May 1975. She later received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Bradley University on May 20th, 1979. On June 14, 1992, she received her Juris Doctor degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law at Illinois Institute of Technology and later passed the Wisconsin bar on June 2, 1993. She furthered her education with an Advanced Law Certificate (LLM) at Georgetown University in Washington, DC on February 1, 2014.

Denise’s husband, Christopher Bowen, had numerous executive career opportunities that required their family to relocate frequently across the United States. Despite this, Denise’s strength, love, and willingness to sacrifice ensured she raised and educated her children while maintaining her career. She worked as an insurance claims specialist at Allstate and State Farm in Naperville, Illinois. Later, she held legal positions including attorney at Kasdorf Law Firm in Milwaukee Wisconsin, and spent 18 years as Tax Law Specialist at the Dept. of Treasury (IRS) in Washington D.C. and Maitland, FL. She also established her own practice, Bowen Law Offices, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Denise eventually retired early to focus on homeschooling her younger three children. She stressed the importance of Christ in their lives and utilized the Abeka program. Regardless of location, church membership, bible teaching, evangelizing, promoting Christian values, and community outreach, were all a top priority to Denise.

Denise loved to cook, travel, play golf, enjoyed fashion, boating, fishing, music (especially Chicago the Band and Kenny Logins) and watch NFL football but most important to her was family involvement and maintaining friend’s relationships.

On June 2, 2024, at 8:53pm, the loving soul of Denise E. Bowen went home to be with the Lord. With gratefulness for her life and the precious treasure of her beautiful memories, she leaves after 33 years of marriage, her loving husband Christoper Bowen, three sons: Kenneth (Deanna) Scott Jr., Keivone Bowen, Davione Bowen and her daughter, Nakiyah Bowen. Also, two granddaughters, Olivia and Sophia Scott, along with her brother Richard (Darlene) Carr of Park Forest, Illinois including Benjamin and Kim Corbett. In addition, niece Kimberly (Craig) Starks, niece Diamond Monroe, nephew Lurenzo Carr and a host of other relatives and friends.

Denise was preceded in death by her parents, Jeremiah and Beatrice Carr.
