Denise Sue Johnson, age 58, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital in Saginaw, MI. She lived in West Branch her entire life. Denise was born on August 24, 1963 in West Branch to Edward and Melvia (Kartes) Buckel.
On June 30, 1984, she married John "Dale" Johnson in West Branch.
Denise graduated from Ogemaw Heights High School in 1981. She attended Kirtland Community College and received a degree in cosmetology. She worked in town at the Five & Dime in downtown West Branch, State Farm Insurance and then at Diebold Insurance Agency in West Branch since 1996 until her retirement in 2020. She worked in the insurance industry for 35 years.
Denise was involved with 4-H Youth Shooting Sports and volunteered with the Salvation Army. She was the past president for National Wild Turkey Federation and also West Branch Area Business & Professional Women. She enjoyed garage sales, antiques, shooting, camping, and decorating her home. Most of all, she cherished every moment with her family and loved being a "Mimi" to her grandchildren.
Denise is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Dale Johnson of West Branch; daughters, Lynnette (Jeremy) Card of Sterling and Megan (Alex) Henry of West Branch; grandchildren, Markie, Ariel, Brynn, and Alaina; sister, Annie Parrish of West Branch; brother, Ed (Jim Smith) Buckel Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law, Shirley Coln of West Branch; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law, Ima Jean Rose, and brothers-in-law, Ron Parrish and Dale Coln.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Sunday, December 5, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Jim Beck will officiate.
