Denise Lynne Kaplan

Denise L. Kaplan, 65, of San Mateo, California, passed away peacefully with her former husband present, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, merely two days after her 65th birthday. She was born on February 23, 1961 in San Diego California, and grew up in Silver Spring Maryland, graduating from Paint Branch high school in 1979. She attended the University of Maryland, College Park, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 1984. She had worked for IBM for many years and then as vice president of Application Development for the Vantive Corp, a software start up that was acquired by PeopleSoft and subsequently Oracle.

In the early 2000's, in addition to taking on executive roles in software startups and studying Theravada Buddhism, she studied fine arts at the San Francisco Art Institute, beginning a second career in visual arts. Denise was an adventurer with a variety of outdoor interests, enjoying scuba diving trips around the world, trekking in the Himalayas, and bungee jumping. She enjoyed traveling the globe, savoring the local cuisines and embracing new experiences. She is survived by her siblings Carolee, Oakland Ca, Keith, Farmington CT, and Scott, North Port Fla.
