Dennis Averill

DENNIS DELANE AVERILL Dennis Delane Averill, age 87, died on Friday, 26 December 2025, at The Emeralds Care Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Dennis was born 22 August 1938 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to parents Ted and Eava Averill, and the family moved to International Falls in the mid-1940's. After high school, Dennis enlisted in the US Army, serving for 21 1/2 years. He met his wife Barbara in Anchorage, Alaska and they were married on April 17, 1969. They spent a good share of their early married life together in Barbara's hometown of Great Falls, Montana. They moved back to Dennis' hometown of International Falls in 1991 and lived here until September 2024, where Dennis worked at K-Mart for a few years. Dennis and Barbara were married 55 years. Through the years, Dennis and Barbara enjoyed many activities together: woodworking, gardening, canning, camping, RV travel, 4-wheeling and walking trails in the woods, and various crafts of all kinds. He will be greatly missed. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife's parents, his sister, Darlene 'Dolly' (Darwin Sr.) Joslyn, and 6 brothers Ted, Ernie, Bob (Ilse), Roy (Grace), Chuck & Mike Averill. Dennis is survived by his sister-in-law, Shirley (Rick) Kindsvatter, of Great Falls, Montana, sister-in-law Gladys Averill of International Falls, and special nephew Darwin (Julie) Joslyn Jr. and many other nieces and nephews. Per Dennis's wishes, there will be no funeral. Interment will take place at Fort Snelling Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN, with full military honors, during the summer of 2026.
