Dennis Marvin Barnes

Dennis Marvin Barnes, age 84, of Farmington Hills, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Dennis was born on September 8, 1941 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Robert G. and Dorothy L. (Greer) Barnes. He graduated from Vandalia Butler High School and went on to get his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Dayton Art Institute and University of Dayton. He was employed as a Design Sculptor for General Motors Design Center until his retirement in 2008 after 43 years.

Dennis married his wife Nancy (Niemisto) in 1990. He is survived by blended family members including daughter Jenny (Dale), sons Michael, Mark (Linda), Gregory, grandchildren Cody (Lexie), Amanda (Michael), Logan, Courtney (Lyle), John (Alexandra), goddaughter Samantha (children Silas and Ari), great grandchildren Lillian and Sofia. Sister Sheree, Brother-in-Law, Richard (Karen), Aunt Mildred, niece Amy, nephews David (Eva), Benjamin, Jared, Dustin (Joy), Bryan (Alex), Colton, Wesley (Connor), cousins, and his beloved cats.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Robert G. And Dorothy Barnes, brothers Robert G., Jr. (Marilyn), and Richard (Eugenia), uncles and aunts.

The Barnes family will receive guests on Monday, January 12, beginning at 10 am until the 1 pm funeral service at the funeral home. Those attending the service are asked to dress appropriately for the weather, for their comfort and safety.

Interment will immediately follow at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia.
