Dennis Berven Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel - Chapman on Feb. 6, 2026.
Dennis L. Berven, age 72, was born on April 4, 1953, in Webster City, Iowa, to Stanley and Arlene (Grubbe) Berven. He passed away on February 5, 2026 in Abilene, Kansas surrounded by his wife, children, and 4 of his grandkids.

Denny graduated high school in South Sioux City, Nebraska, and proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army for three years. Following his military service, he climbed into a semi and began a lifelong career in the family business.

Denny had a passion for sports and could often be found watching any game on TV. He was a die hard Nebraska Cornhuskers and Kansas City Chiefs fan and he followed them religiously. He also loved the outdoors, especially boating, spending time on the lake, enjoying rum runners after a long day on the water, sitting outside on the porch enjoying a keystone light and cruising the campground on his golf cart. As a Harley fan, he rode as long as he possibly could-only giving it up when he physically no longer could.

He was married to Diane Fox in March 1977 and they welcomed a son, Dallas. They later divorced.

Denny met Sondra "Kay" Jackson in October 1983 and they were married on April 22, 1988. Together they had 2 daughters and built a lifetime of memories.

Denny is survived by his wife, Kay; his children and grandchildren: Dallas and Melissa, with children Matthew and wife Cheyann (expecting his first great granddaughter this month), Brooklyn and husband Matthew, and Parker; Kayla and husband Nathan, with children Jaxten and Bryson; and Alexandra and daughter Skilar. He is also survived by his brother Dave Berven and wife Arlene, and nephews Cody and wife Michaela with children Hudson, Oaklee, and Raelynn; Jacob; Dustin with children Tyler and wife Madison, Teagan, and Sydney; and his niece Dawn and husband Cody with children Conner, and Chase.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Arlene Berven, and his sister, Ann Tschampel.

Denny will be remembered for the love he had for his family and hard working personality. You could always find a Keystone light and an open door at his house.

The family will have a celebration of life at the Abilene Elks Club on Sunday February 15, 2026 from 12-3pm followed by visitation from 4-6pm at Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Final goodbyes will be February 16, 2026 at 1:00pm at Abilene First United Methodist Church followed by the burial at the Abilene Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be given to the Tammy Walker Cancer Foundation for blood cancer research or to the Hospice of Dickinson County. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third ST., Abilene, Kansas 67410.
