RUPERT – Our beloved father and grandfather, Dennis Dean Bossert, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at a care facility in Salmon, Idaho.
Dennis was born May 11, 1950, in Mobridge, South Dakota, the only child of Reinhold and Genevieve (Straub) Bossert. Dennis grew up in Rupert, Idaho, where he attended school, ultimately graduating from Minico High School in 1968. After graduation, Dennis completed Army National Guard boot camp in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He returned home and married Peggy Brown in December 1969. Together they had three children: Jasson, Brooke, and Holly. In his younger years, Dennis worked primarily at Cenex Co-Op "peddling gas" to farmers for nearly a decade and half. In June 1982, Dennis married Charlotte Reid and gained two bonus kids, Angela and Steve. Together, he and Charlotte had Chelsea. In 1984, Dennis began working as a reserve police officer. He found his true passion in serving his community, prompting him to attend POST and become a full-time officer for nearly 15 years for the City of Rupert. In August 1995, the third time really was the charm when he married Christal Startin. Dennis continued to serve the City of Rupert through his work in the city shop, the wastewater treatment plant, and as a code enforcement officer.
Throughout his lifetime and different careers, Dennis managed to accumulate countless friends and acquaintances. He was just easy to like! He had a charming personality and an infectious laugh. He loved the outdoors and taught his children to love fishing, camping, hunting, and four-wheeling. His children have cherished memories riding on the back of his different motorcycles and in the passenger seat of his Jeeps. He had an impressive memory and could easily recall birthdays and anniversaries. In his later years, he looked forward to weekly lunches with his crew. Dennis honored his parents and demonstrated commitment to family and friends. He was an example of strength and fortitude even as life's trials seemed more than any one person should bear. He maintained his smile and his optimism through it all, and he has left a lasting impression on many.
He was preceded in death by his stillborn son, Jasson; his parents; his wife, Christal; and his daughter, Holly.
He is survived by his daughters, Brooke (John) Wiest and Chelsea (Stephen) Morley; bonus kids, Steve Orick (Monica White) and Angela (Anthony) Villa; along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dennis leaves behind a life well-lived and well-loved and more than a few good stories that will be told for years to come.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 4, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, located at 1350 East 16th St., in Burley. Burial will follow at Rupert Cemetery. Family and friends will be received from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Thursday, preceding the funeral service.
