God swiftly sent, by special assignment, angels on January 13, 2026 to
Layton, UT. Their assignment was to retrieve Dennis, his mission completed, all labors finished and his reward waiting along with loved ones lined up anxiously for his arrival to hug, love, greet and thank him for his many life's accomplishments in giving and giving.
Dennis was born December 27, 1939 to Alvin D. Bounds and Clarecie E. Ivie in Fruitvale, ID. Dennis leaves behind a brother Dallen, two sisters, Lee Gettling, Melody (Gordon) Olsen and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death; his parents, a sister, Alvanna, a brother, Rex, his two children and some grandchildren. He was raised in Ashland Oregon surrounded with Grandpas, Grandmas, Uncles, Aunts, Parents, Brothers, Sisters, Cousins and loads of friends. It was a wonderful time to grow up in Ashland. Many happy memories surround that time. Added to that list since then are unnumbered friends.
He met Tonna Sampson at an M & Men & Gleaners' activity, later marrying in the St. George UT LDS Temple on October 9, 1970. Their union was blessed with 9 children. Aurich Bounds (11/9/1971), Bsjonet (Douglas) Fisher, Chiy Jaren Bounds (12/16/1974-12/25/1974), Derika (Eric) Terrell, Erilee (Jeremiah) Hibbert, Feron Jacob (Carol) Bounds, Georlin Sampson Bounds, Hishla (Derek) Nandu, Ikara Bounds and those wonderful Grandchildren, Kristof, Tiaunna, Talya, Larissa, Owen, Aria, Savannah, Kaceira, Camden, Averi, Lukiah, Lily, Kiaralei, Oliver, Gaden, Greyson and a great grandchild Sophia.
His whole life was forever active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many leadership positions, and very thankful for them all. Forgiving others throughout his life was a goal he always worked on. He loved his Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ with a sure testimony of that truth, never doubting with unshakable faith that we all knew, being firm and consistent.
The list is long for his 'doings', it can be said, he never slowed down. He could squeeze out another project. Again there is too many things to list and cover here. Just for one, was the Boy Scout program. After graduating from high school and some college he went on a LDS mission for 2 ½ years to Central America learning Spanish. Returning he earned money teaching Spanish on the local radio station. He was also immediately asked by the local bishop to be Scout Master over about 13+ boys. With Dennis' history, the locals said it was like 'putting the fox in the hen-house'. Dennis had a great love of the outdoors that he learned from his Grandpa Ivie. He was so happy to spend all that time with boys in the outdoors. Some past events were Mt. Man, On Target, Varsity, Jamborees, Venture, Camps and more outings in abundance, loads of Merit Badges and lost track counting his Eagle Scouts. Being involved with the Boy Scout program earned him all kinds of recognition. Too many to list but it is in his history. It was all about the 'young men' and never about the recognition. One of the last awards he received was the Silver Beaver Award, honoring him at the Chief Seattle Council.
Having children in the home was one of his greatest joys. His children can remember all the things that he would do to fill their lives with fun. He would build or bring home things to create. The go-cart, tree fort, playhouse, tire swings, tether ball, tram, wooden reels and tractor tires, etc... Play was important! He believed in having animals for the children to learn from. Fruit trees and having a garden to teach, learn and eat from as well. There was chopping wood to keep the woodshed loaded. Chores for ever and ever, family prayers, family home evenings, Sunday church attendance for sure. Serve, serve and serve some more. People had needs that he would take his children a long with him.
He worked hard to support his family and they felt it. He and Tonna were a team in this effort to create a family unit. With the great hope that they would all help and love each other. Connecting as a family was his eternal hope.
Dennis wore out his body way too early for his likes. He had a lot more to do but those angels sent to retrieve him told him differently. Times up, your family will carry on, no worries, come with us, God is waiting along with your two children, grandchildren, your loving mother, your cherished grandparents and don't forget your sister….so come, hurry, there is eternity waiting.
Before he left he would have loved to tell you all, thank you and I love you.
Those who knew and loved Dennis are invited to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page at: www.myers-mortuary.com Your stories, pictures, and moments will help carry forward his legacy-a legacy of joy, generosity, faith, love and family.
