Dennis E. "Denny" Brown, age 78, of Mundelein, formerly Skokie, died Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born June 25, 1945, in Chicago.
Beloved husband of Margaret, née Ewert, Brown; loving father of Kerri (Nick) Ciaccio, Laura Brown, and the late Brian Brown; proud grandfather of Tyler, Colin, Kaitlyn, Brian, Sean, and Layla; dedicated brother-in-law to Bobby Ewert and Jackie Kochel; dear uncle and friend of many.
Dennis and Margaret's love story began when they met at Maryville Academy in Des Plaines, IL, when he was ten years old. After leaving Maryville, Dennis proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was with the first Marine Battalion to be sent into combat during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, Dennis reconnected with Margaret, and in 1971 they were married. For 53 years, they shared an extraordinary life filled with an abundance of love and laughter. Dennis was extremely sentimental, as it was quite common to find love notes, cards, and stuffed animals for Margaret (much to the embarrassment of their children) hidden around the house. Dennis and Margaret provided a nurturing home for their three children, but their greatest joy and source of pride was their six grandchildren.
Dennis always considered himself a simple man. He took pleasure in reading, cooking, exercising, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends. He believed in treating others with kindness, compassion, and grace at all times. Many who knew him appreciated Dennis's quick wit and humor, as well as his unwavering loyalty. If you ever needed help, he would be the first person to call. Although his family teased him for his many sayings, one of Dennis's all-time favorite lines to repeat was, I cried when I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet. Dennis was always grateful for what God had given him and instilled this value in his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and hope for his family and friends to continue.
We truly appreciate all of the love and care that Dennis's medical team at Highland Park Hospital provided on this journey, as we know this allowed his loved ones more time with him. Dennis was admired by his nurses and doctors for his contagious smile and ability to remain upbeat. Dennis embraced the motto, Once a Marine, Always a Marine, throughout his life and during his illness. Guided by his immense strength, honor, and courage, these principles are a testament to how Dennis lived his life and how he will be fondly remembered by the many who cherished him.
Service and Interment private.

Dennis, my friend, my brother, what can you say about a man I knew for almost 50 years. Too many memories to recount. From the first day we met at Illinois Bell and the carpools we had to the last day we saw each other at the McDonald’s for fish fillet on Friday’s .When we got together we didn’t have to talk too much. We shared moments of silence. We knew not to talk too much. We didn’t see each other too often, even though we live close to each other, but when we got together, we started talking as if we were just continuing our journey.
I will miss you, my brother, Phil

Even though I didn´t share moments with Mr. Brown, I felt like I knew Dennis through his daughter Laura. God bless your family in this time of sorrow. May your heart´s soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times spent together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Maggie and family - our hearts go out to all of you. Dennis was a very special man and we were priviledged to have known him. He faced illness with such incredible bravery and selflessness. We will miss his sense of humor and kindness, amongst his many other great attributes. We will continue praying for comfort and peace for all of you.
