Dennis was born December 27, 1951, in Waterloo, the son of Melvin and Elizabeth "Ruth" (Andersen) Cobb. After graduating from Prairie High School in 1970, he went to work at various businesses and trades seeking his passion and knowledge. He eventually began working for Iowa Electric, now Alliant Energy, starting at the bottom and working his way through three different apprenticeships. He attained Journeyman status at each of them. Through his hard work and perseverance, he was promoted to Maintenance and Operations Supervisor. Working with Alliant Energy for twenty-four years, 11 months, and 10 days. After leaving Alliant Energy, Dennis opened his own business, during this time he was recruited by World Class Industries in Hiawatha, and became a Director of Manufacturing there, working beside his brother Pat. In 2013, he retired from World Class Industries.
Each of his job experiences provided him with new knowledge and qualities that guided and supported him to become the man he was, hardworking, caring, a good listener, honest, humble, dependable, trustworthy, and generous with his time and talents.
On March 6, 1976, he married the love of his life Lana Stejskal in Cedar Rapids. On February 14, 2006, he arranged a surprise renewal of their vows in one of their favorite vacation spots in the Dominican Republic. They enjoyed 45 together, filled with so much love and laughter.
