Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions - Kettering ChapelDennis Michael Conroy, Sr, age 82, of Centerville, passed away Friday, February 13, 2026. Dennis was born December 1, 1943, to John and Catherine (née Sheridan) Conroy. He was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. Rambunctious and with personality to spare, Dennis excelled in academics and track. As a young man he thoroughly enjoyed scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. After graduating Saint Nicholas of Tolentine High school, he attended the University of Dayton where he received a degree in Business Administration. Here he met the love of his life, Mary Slusny, who would become his wife of sixty-one years.
After starting a family in the Bronx, Dennis and Mary returned to Dayton, where Dennis worked for Ohio Bell and AT&T. Through hard work and dedication Dennis received many promotions. He started as a lineman, but would eventually become a manager responsible for operations in several states. Ever the salesman, Dennis received special recognition and awards for the sale of phone systems to businesses in the area. Dennis also started his own side business called Conroy’s Irish Pizza. He and the entire family worked many local fairs and the Dayton Air Show.
Dennis was devoted to his family. He and Mary were blessed with four children and eight grandchildren. Dennis loved to cook and hosted the entire family for almost every holiday. He was known for his Christmas cookies and Daddy Burgers (Preston’s favorite), and it brought him much joy to see everyone well fed and enjoying themselves. The grandchildren adored his fun-loving spirit and knew any time spent with Grandpa would be entertaining.
Dennis’ faith was important to him. He was a dedicated parishioner of Saint Charles Borromeo Church. He was a member for over fifty years and spent many of those as an usher. Surrounded by loved ones, Dennis received final sacraments administered by Father Tony Sanitato of Saint Charles.
Dennis was preceded in death by his much-loved parents and brothers, Brian and Jack Conroy. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his children, Dennis Jr. (Dana) Conroy, Christine (Steven) Owsley, JoAnn (Stephen) Polito, and Brian (Stacey) Conroy; his beloved grandchildren, Lilia, Brandon, Madeline, Jennifer, Brent, Ryan, Nora, and Preston; his sweet great-grandson, Archibald; and many dear nieces, nephews and friends.
Dennis will be sorely missed, but lovingly remembered. Despite spending over sixty years in Ohio, he remained very much himself, an Irish kid from the Bronx.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, March 21 at 10:30 AM at Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 4500 Ackerman Boulevard, Kettering, Ohio 45429. Please join the family afterward for a Celebration of Life from 12:00 to 5:00 PM at the VFW Post 9927, 3316 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, Ohio 45429.
