Dennis Ray DeGroot,81, passed away at Sanford/USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD on Wednesday, January 7,2026.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2025 at Heritage Funeral Home. Interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery will immediately follow the luncheon.
Dennis DeGroot was born on January 7, 1945, in Adrian, Minnesota. He was the son of Henry DeGroot and Louise Rust. He received his education in Pipestone, Minnesota and was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1962.
Dennis entered active military service in the United States Air Force, Air National Guard, and served his country from 1965 to 1971. He received an Honorable Discharge on April 21, 1971.
On December 1, 1972, Dennis was united in marriage to Deborah Thompson in Pipestone, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with 3 children: Stacey, Mike and DJ. The couple resided in Sartell, Minnesota and later moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They shared 46 years of marriage.
Dennis was employed at Gamble Robinsons, Food Services of America and Sysco Foods as a sales manager. He retired in 2015. Dennis was a member of St. John Paul II Catholic church.
Dennis enjoyed coffee with his friends, working out at Active Generations, playing solitaire on his computer, watching the Minnesota Vikings, his westerns, and shopping for cars. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. His friends and family remember him as a genuine, kindhearted man who was full of life and humor.
Dennis is survived by his children; daughter Stacey DeGroot of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, son Michael DeGroot of Harrisburg, South Dakota, and son Daniel (Becca) DeGroot of Waconia, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jordan DeGroot, Jayla Meeks, Norah DeGroot, McKenna DeGroot and great granddaughter Mazie DeGroot; siblings, sister Pat Wehrenberg, LaCrosse, WI, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Dennis is preceded in death by his wife Debbie DeGroot, parents Henry and Louise, sisters Carole Zwart and Shari DeGroot, nephews Chad Miller, James Miller, Chris Lohre, niece Sheri Gustafson, sister-in-law Cindy Haugen Beringer.
