Dennis Mitchell Drummond, age 79, beloved husband, father, brother, grandpa, and friend passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.
Dennis was born and raised in Perham, MN where he graduated in 1963. He was a three-sport athlete in high school earning All-State honors in football. He attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where he received a scholarship to play football; graduating in 1968 with a degree in education.
Dennis and Laura were married in 1967 in Perham. They moved to Waubun, MN where Dennis took his first teaching and coaching assignments. He was drafted into the Army in 1969 and was stationed at Fort Benning while he completed his officers training. Following his service to our country, they moved back to Waubun. They eventually settled back in their hometown of Perham in the late 70s. Dennis held many roles in the Perham School District including assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. As school superintendent, he was instrumental in overseeing the expansion of the Perham district, first with the remodel of the high school followed by the construction of the new elementary and lastly a new middle school.
In retirement Dennis enjoyed golfing, hunting, working on his lawn, traveling, playing cards, working on his library, and especially being with family at Rose Lake.
Dennis is survived by his wife Laura and children: Dacia (John) and Chandler (Angie); grandchildren Alea, Bobby, Tommy, and Jay; three great-grandchildren; brother Jeff (Janet); sister Debra (Chris); sisters-in-law Mary and Alice; and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Verna; his son Aaron; brother Greg; in-laws Dale and Florence Tuttle; brothers-in-law Robert Hooper, Harold Radi, Chuck Tappe, Jerry Tuttle, and Jay Tuttle; and sisters-in-law Rhoda Hooper and Jane Tuttle.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2:00-4:30 p.m., with Military Honors and a Time for Sharing at 3:45 on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham.
