With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Dennis Neslin Hed, born in Minneapolis Minnesota May 28th, 1934 - passed away August 9th, 2025. Dennis is preceded in death by his loving parents Leroy and Libby, and his wonderful brothers, Donald and Darrell. Survived by his wife Joanne, daughter Lynda (Dave), Tracy (Ron), grandchildren Josh (Ashleigh), Jenna (Craig), Molly (Yascha), John, Megan (Christopher) and Tony (Claire). Also brother-in-law Doug (and family Jeanette, Mark and Kelly), and great grandchildren Jack, Caden, Kiley, Ava, Winnie, Warren, Colton, Barrett and Harper. Uncles include Mike, Todd and Steve. Dennis ((also Denny and Boompa (nickname given by the grandchildren)) worked hard and played hard his entire life, providing a home, a lake cabin in central Minnesota and endless stories for his extensive family to share. Dennis is a veteran of the United States Navy and Army, serving his country proudly as a Navy Reservist aboard the USS Hodges. While enjoying his time on the Hodges, Denny was drafted into the Army and spent most of his military career in Germany. Doing a variety of jobs in Germany, he worked to clear out bombed buildings. And he enjoyed the German Beer. He worked for years on the Minneapolis St Louis Railroad as a carman and track manager, and pursued a career at Standard Register Company where he retired. Denny was skilled and diverse and talented in technical things. He also was a guide at Glacier National Park. His days at the cabin on Lake Washburn in Outing MN were filled with fishing and boating on the pontoon, camping and enjoying nature and his lifelong friends. Dennis loved telling stories and jokes with friends, golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing, riding his beloved lawnmowers, barbeques, and making everything perfect for his family to enjoy. A funeral will be held September 5th at Washburn-McReavy Bloomington Funeral Chapel, 2300 W. Old Shakopee Rd Bloomington MN. Visitation at 10AM. Service at 11AM. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery immediately following. If you wish to join us at Fort Snelling National Cemetery please arrive at 12:45PM in Assembly Area Lane #2.
