In Loving Memory of Dennis James "DJ" Jones
August 19, 1945 – May 8, 2025
South Jordan, UtahDennis James "DJ" Jones passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, in
South Jordan, Utah, at the age of 79, following a courageous battle with leukemia.
Born in Ventura, California, on August 19, 1945, to Deloris Grogan and Milton Lincoln Jones, DJ's father and stepmother, Gertrude Ridgel raised him in Baltimore, Maryland. A proud veteran, DJ served as an Air Force medic from 1964 to 1968, where he developed a deep compassion for others.
In 1966, he married his sweetheart, Carma Rae Vernon, and they were sealed together for time and eternity in the Manti Utah Temple in 1968. Together, they built a joyful life spanning 58 years across Utah, Washington, and Arizona, raising a family grounded in love and faith.
After his military service, DJ pursued his passion for art and design, studying interior design and founding several successful businesses, including DJ's Carpet and Interiors and Twiggs and Moore Gallery-once one of the largest art dealers in the western United States. He also decorated houses for the Parade of HOmes. DJ had a remarkable creative gift for seeing the potential in any space and making it shine.
A convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1966, DJ was a devoted member throughout his life, serving faithfully in multiple church leadership roles. DJ took great pride in his sons and grandchildren who dedicated time to serve missions for the gospel of Jesus Christ. His life was a quiet example of service, creativity, and deep devotion to family and faith.
DJ found joy in family vacations, camping, traveling, gardening, painting, sketching and designing floor plans, playing cards with friends and most of all, spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His great sense of humor, warmth, and artistic flair will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
DJ is survived by his loving wife, Carma, and their five boys and their wives: Brent (Cherese), Scott (Julie), Greg (Jami), Ryan (Lolly), and Tyler (Holly). He is also survived by his 12 cherished grandchildren: Chandler, Luke, Breanna, Katie, Ella, Brielle, Megan, Lily, Jessie, Liam, Olivia, Brookli, and great-granddaughter Scottie. He was excited for the upcoming arrival of his second great-granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his son Jeffrey, his parents, Milton and Deloris, and stepmother Gertrude.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who cared for DJ in his final days. To the compassionate team at the Veterans Hospital, especially Dr. Toshee and Nurse Elise-your dedication and kindness brought great comfort.
Our sincere appreciation goes to Copper Ridge Care Center for your gentle support, and to Canyon Homecare and Hospice-Renee, Claudia, and Dave-thank you for your tenderness and grace. Your care and presence meant the world to DJ and to all of us who loved him.
