Dennis Daniel Karas, 77, of Luxemburg passed peacefully in his sleep Wednesday morning, May 21, 2025 at Camp Luther in Three Lakes on a fishing trip. He was born on December 5, 1947 in Sturgeon Bay to the late Kenneth Francis and Bernice Lydia (Krueger) Karas.
Dennis, the oldest of four boys, grew up in Sturgeon Bay, was confirmed May 27, 1962 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, and graduated from Southern Door High School. He graduated from Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College with a degree in Civil Technology. Dennis served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1969 to 1971. He had a 37 year career with the WI Department of Transportation survey crew. He was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luxemburg. He was involved in stewardship of the church and served as a board member, education trustee, and teacher for the adult bible classes. At Zion Lutheran Church in Hobart, he served on the board of trustees and elders. Dennis supported his daughters in many sporting endeavors, as well as served on the PTO for the Luxemburg Casco School District, and volunteered for 4H. He enjoyed playing, coaching, and managing softball teams in Sturgeon Bay, Forestville, Algoma, Casco, Luxemburg, Kewaunee, Tisch Mills, Whitelaw, and Green Bay. He enjoyed participating in two bowling leagues and working at Camp Luther with long-time friend Glen Smith. His other pastimes included fishing, hunting, traveling, and playing cards with friends.
He is survived by his four daughters, Tina (Randy) Johnson, Dawn Karas, Susan (Dan) Plawski, Anna (Tyler) Veit; five grandchildren, Katie and Jake Johnson, William, Victoria, and Addison Veit; two brothers, Darrel (Rosie) Karas, William (Sue) Karas; sister-in-law, Debbie Karas; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth Karas.
Dennis's life will be honored with a visitation (2:30 pm) and church funeral service (3:30 pm) on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church, 453 Rose-Hill Dr, Hobart, WI 54155 with Pastor Christian Burg officiating. Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River is helping the family with cremation. Following the service, please join the family for a gathering in the fellowship hall.
