Dennis Floyd Longwell, son of James and Nadine (Kiser) Longwell was born June 11, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away on March 25, 2025, at his home in Springfield, MO at the age of 72.
Dennis is preceded in death by his father, James and stepfather, Oris Ballard.
He is survived by his mother, Nadine and siblings, Michael of Houston and Tabby Orndorff of Indianapolis, IN. And a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dennis was married to Barbara McBroom for 30 years, and was a stepfather to Kevin, Brian and Candy during that time.
Dennis graduated from high school in 1970 in Greenville, IL. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and spent most of his service time in Germany. After returning to the states, Dennis went to SMS in Springfield for his training in sociology. He worked and retired from the Department of Health and Senior Services as a facility surveyor. Basically, inspecting health care facilities.
Dennis loved hiking, camping, and anything to do with music. He attended many concerts and festivals; with the Winfield, KS Festival and Cook's Fall Party being his favorites. He jumped at any chance to play music and must have carried his guitar for 100,000 miles. Playing music was a large part of Dennis' life. He played every weekend at Gailey's restaurant in Springfield for many years with his friend and bandmate, Drew. They also played at a multitude of weddings and parties together. Dennis enjoyed riding his bike and practicing Tai-chi. He also enjoyed many neighborhood walks while his health permitted. He was a devoted Kansas City Chiefs football fan.
He lived a life of music and many travels. He will be missed.
