Dennis Marsh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home on Mar. 10, 2026.
Dennis D. Marsh, "Denny", beloved husband, beloved friend, and highly decorated member of the New York State Police, the Town of Goshen Police Department, and the Orange County Sheriff's Department, passed away unexpectedly on February 28, 2026, at the age of 76. He was the devoted "love of my life" to his wife, Jeannette.

The son of Musette and William Marsh of Jamestown, NY, Denny was born on February 6, 1950 in Jamestown, NY.

He was known for his infectious smile, commanding voice, unshakeable integrity, and a heart as big as his dedication to serving the community. Throughout his distinguished career, he was a New York State Trooper rising to the rank of BCI Senior Investigator at Troop F Middletown NY, and was the Chief of Police for the Town of Goshen, NY. Denny earned numerous accolades and commendations, working on great criminal cases, encompassing several serial killers, the John Gotti investigation, and the Mafia crime syndicate, to name a few - reflecting his bravery and unwavering commitment to safety. He was respected by peers and loved by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

Beyond the badge, Denny served 2 tours in Vietnam with his beloved United States Marine Corps, receiving 2 Purple Heart Medals and a Bronze Star. Denny was a lifetime member of the VFW. A man of the outdoors and an avid golfer, he belonged to the Al Turi league for 30 years and served as president of the league for several years.

He cherished quiet mornings in the woods, with his son and closest friends, spending deer season at his favorite cabin, and the camaraderie of the golf course, where he could always be found searching for the perfect swing or perhaps just enjoying a sunny day with his buddies.

Of all the things Denny loved, he was a devoted New York Yankees fan. Denny also enjoyed cooking Spanish food with Jeannette and everyone will surely miss his delicious Empanadas.

More than any award, Denny, took the most pride in his role as a husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and loyal friend. His love story with Jeannette was one for the ages, filled with laughter, deep friendship, and unwavering support. To her, he was "the love of her life", her best friend, her rock, and her entire world.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannette Carbone-Marsh; son Jason Marsh, who followed his father's career and retired as Sargent for The Warwick Police Department with partner Donna Sambone, of Airmont. NY; stepson Derrick Rosario; daughter-in-law, Elicia Rosario of Middletown, NY; and granddaughters Grace Marsh and Lauren Marsh of Airmont, NY. Sister Wendella Barry, brother-in-law Dennis Barry, Sr of Jamestown, NY, nephew Dennis Barry Jr. his partner Lisa Salisbury, of Bloomingburg NY, brother & sister-in-law Robert & Ida Isaac of Bloomingburgh, NY, and many more nieces and nephews, a community of friends and colleagues who will miss him deeply.

A visitation will be held at Knight- Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis NY, on April 10, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday 4/11/26 11:00am at the funeral home. Immediately following services a formal funeral procession will proceed to the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame 240 Main Street Goshen NY 10924, where all are invited for a continued celebration of Denny's life at their banquet hall.
