Dennis M. Morrison, 78, of Oglesby, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the Prey-Mueller Funeral Home, Oglesby with Rev. Paul Carlson, pastor of Holy Family Church, Oglesby, officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Vincent's Cemetery, LaSalle. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Dennis was born May 10, 1945 in LaSalle to Lyle and Josephine (Orzechowski) Morrison. He attended LaSalle-Peru Township High School and graduated with the Class of 1963 before attended LPO Jr. College and graduated with the Class of 1965. After a year at Northern Illinois University, he went on to join the Peace Corps in 1966. Following time with the Peace Corps in India, Dennis attended Southern Illinois University where he obtained a Bachelor's of Science degree in Education. Dennis was a veteran of the United States Army. He served from 1971-1973 in the 592nd Signal Company as a Crypto Communications Specialist in Berlin Brigade, West Berlin, and West Germany. Dennis married Frances "Fran" Prey on June 15, 1972 in West Berlin, Germany.
Dennis was a branch manager for Ferguson-Thrall Enterprises, Inc. in Peru until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of Holy Family Church, Oglesby, Oglesby Elks Lodge 2360, Oglesby American Legion Post 237, National Rifle Association, the National Council of Peace Corps Volunteers, and was a former board member and president of Holy Family Credit Union. Dennis was very proud to be in the Peace Corps and to serve his country. He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, gardening, and reading.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Fran of Oglesby; two daughters, Vanessa Morrison of Franklin Park and Alissa Morrison of Oglesby; two brothers, Douglas (JoAnn) Morrison of Georgia and Robert (Linda) Morrison of Illinois; one brother-in-law, William (Nancy) Prey of California; two sisters-in-law, Nancy (James) Semenak of South Carolina and Sandy Morrison of Georgia; mother-in-law, Rose Ann Prey of Oglesby; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lyle R. "Buddy" Morrison and Joseph Morrison in infancy; niece Stacey Morrison; and his father-in-law, William Prey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Oglesby American Legion Post 237, the Dickinson House Foundation, Oglesby, and Holy Family School, Oglesby.
