Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kaatz Funeral Directors Inc - Capac on Jan. 6, 2026.
Dennis William Ortenburg, 82, of Mussey Township, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at home with family by his side.
He was born in Detroit on February 16, 1943, the son of the late Albert and Marion (Suter) Ortenburg.
His marriage to Martha J. Demura was on January 11, 1964, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Gladwin, Michigan.
Dennis was a dedicated and faithful servant of Jehovah's Witnesses, whether it was in Alpena, Chesterfield, Gladwin, Mt Clemens, Sterling or Imlay City. He was very active in the ministry, always sharing his love for Jehovah and volunteering his time and talents on many Quick Builds for the Kingdom Halls of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Dennis was a dairy and crop farmer at their home in Sterling. There he taught his children how to properly care for their cows, horses, ponies, pigs, sheep, rabbits, chickens and peacocks. The couple moved to Chesterfield in 1985, where Dennis and his family built their home and he worked as a millwright for Chrysler Corporation. They moved to Mussey in 2002, where Dennis retired from Warren Stamping. He enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables, yardwork, carpentry, tending to his chickens and of course fixing stuff. He was a jack-of-all-trades and a talented mechanic and carpenter and he just loved to work. Dennis was a hardworking man who loved people and truly enjoyed helping them. In his free time, he liked riding his 4-wheeler, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved learning new things and sharing what he learned with others.
Surviving in addition to Martha, his wife of nearly 63 years, are seven children, Tammy Rosebrugh of Sterling, Dennis Ortenburg of New Baltimore, Philip (Tina) Ortenburg of Ira Township, Lori (Bill) Austin of Emmett, Chrissy Ortenburg, Carrie Ortenburg, and Tony (Ashley) Ortenburg of Florida; twelve grandchildren, Melisa, Jeff (Heather Levi), Brenda (Bryan), Mitchell (Natalie), Philip, Ashley, Hannah (Jon) Holcomb, Hailie, Michael, Mollie, Heidi, Matthew, Anna, Asher, and Alex; four great-grandchildren Diana, Clara, Isaac and Ella; four siblings, Bud (Colleen) Ortenburg of Florida, Diane Strasburg of St. Ignace, Sheryl (Jack) Doty of Gladwin, and David (Kim) Ortenburg of Gladwin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jeff Rosebrugh, and a brother-in-law, Eddie Strassberg.
Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac. A memorial service will be held for Dennis later this Spring. Please contact family and friends later this month for more information.
