It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of SFC Ret. Dennis Wylie Osgood Jr, of Cabot, Arkansas, on May 8, 2025, at the age of 79.
Dennis is survived and missed by his loving wife Sharon, his children Michael (Christina), Edward (Kerry), Sheila, and David (Erika); his siblings Richard (Carmen), Phillip "Joe" (Elaine), Beverly (Dave), Alice and Phyllis (Dan); his grandchildren Eli, Katelyn, Grace, Timothy, Harley, Keegan, Harrison, Emily and Francis; and his great grandchildren Eden, Jackson, Addie and Ellie. Dennis also has an extended family who adored him dearly. The children are Kimberley (Wayne), Annette Lynn, and Rick (Natasha); his grandchildren Christopher, Austin (Jayme), Alexandria and Blanton; his great grandchildren (his "little buddies") Spencer, Nate and Jaxson and Awna Marie. He is preceded in death by his parents Dennis Sr and Evelyn, his brother Wallace, his sister-in-law Arlene and his son Dennis lll.
Dennis was born and raised in Claremont, New Hampshire and it is there that he began his twenty-year Army career defending our country and working hard to be promoted to Sergeant First Class. He was a Vietnam Veteran and later went on to serve as a National Guard recruiter for many years.
After retiring in Arkansas, one of his many pleasures was doing works of service. Dennis loved the Lord and was committed to volunteering at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church in Jacksonville where he greatly helped the church by taking on many jobs throughout the years, his most notable as "Head Usher". He volunteered at Little Rock Air Force Base in the pharmacy and at Pass & ID. He served as Finance Officer for Criswell-Robinson American Legion Post 71 and he was a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Council 11604 Jacksonville.
Dennis was happiest at home with his wife, Sharon, and his large collection of history books. He loved spending time outdoors on warm days gardening and making bird houses with Jaxson, sitting on the back porch drinking coffee and reading, or doing home improvements. One of the things we will never forget about Dennis is how much fun he had calling BINGO games at the Cabot Nursing and Rehab Center. He could frequently be heard saying in his New England accent (that stood out so much to us, here in the South), "Clear your cards!" And all the volunteers and patients would echo, "Clear ya CAWDS!" back to him with peals of laughter.
Dennis lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to end and touched the lives of many people along the way. His legacy of service and love will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged enough to know him.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. A Rosary will be said Monday, May 19, 2025 at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome. The funeral Mass will conclude with Military honors at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Interment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
