Dennis J. Prohaska

Dennis ("Dan" or "Denny") Prohaska, age 83, passed away on August 14, 2023. Born June 18, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Five Holy Martyrs Elementary School and graduated from St. Philip High School in 1958. He attended DeVry Trade School and received an electronics degree. He worked for Western Electric (now Nokia) for over 24 years. Eventually working his way to a supervisory position at Montgomery Works. In 1989 Dan (Denny) took an early retirement at the age of 49 followed by working part time for Forest Alarm, a home security systems company. Dan and his wife Carol have resided in Downers Grove for over 50 years. He enjoyed entertaining his granddaughters with shopping sprees, attending their sports activities, and making them laugh to earn the nickname "silly Papa." Dan/Denny was a true family man, and his love for them was apparent to all who knew him.
Carol and Dan met in the RR Donnelly parking lot and married in 1963. They enjoyed many years of road trips, camping, square dancing, car shows, cruise nights, concerts, fests, and Broadway productions and concerts at the Paramount. An avid car enthusiast, Dan owned a 1967 Pontiac GTO.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Prohaska, his mother Delores Prohaska, and his brother Lawrence Prohaska. He is survived by his brother, John Prohaska Jr., his loving wife, Carolyn Prohaska, of 60 years and daughters Celene Gibson and Corine (Jerry) Solberg and his granddaughters Haley Gibson, Emely Gibson, Cameron Solberg and McKenna Solberg. Dennis J. Prohaska, you will be greatly missed and, in our hearts, forever.
Visitation Friday, August 25th from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave. Darien. Funeral Saturday, August 26th, at 11:00 am at Christ the Servant Catholic Church, 8700 Havens Dr., Woodridge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the APDA (American Parkison Disease Association, Midwest Chapter), Suncrest Hospice or Angel's Grace Hospice.
