Dennis Ray Savell, 78, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas, with Reverend Jimmie Braswell officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Dennis was born in Abilene, Texas, to Charles Adolphus and Ruby Jo Savell on January 6, 1948.
He joined the United States Army in 1966 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal with V device, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal with Silver Loop, Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
After retiring from the Army in 1986, Dennis returned to Odessa, Texas, where he worked in the family business, R.J.’s Sewing Center and Repair, for many years. Later, he relocated to Hobbs, New Mexico, with his loving wife Darlene and started his own sewing machine repair business.
Dennis never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. You could usually find him at the local VFW or American Legion, sharing stories or buying drinks for his friends. He was always generous with his time and his heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene, to whom he was married for 27 years; both of his parents; one brother; and one sister.
Dennis is survived by his three daughters, Sonya Glass of Hobbs, NM, Juliette Freshour of Hornsby, TN, and Donna Parrack Jones of Hutto, TX; one son, Camron Savell of Apex, NC; one brother, Allen Savell of Allen, TX; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Glass, Jason Adams, Camron Savell, Christian Savell, Matthew Whitaker, and Leslie Holcomb.
Memorials may be made to the VFW Post of your choice. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, TX.
