Born on January 25, 1957, in Hopkins, Minnesota, Denny was the son of Norma (Dahlgren) and Harold Unze. He was raised in Minnesota alongside his four brothers and spent his life rooted in the state he loved. After marrying the love of his life, Stephanie, he settled in Chanhassen, where they built a life filled with love, and meaningful friendships.
Denny's career path reflected his many interests and talents. Beginning in radio, then moving on to the U.S. Postal Service, followed by years working in the family woodworking business alongside his brothers, and later found great joy as a public transit bus driver before retiring. He also proudly served as a volunteer firefighter for both the Minnetonka and Chanhassen Fire Departments - roles that exemplified his selflessness and dedication to others.
A true lover of life's simple pleasures, Denny enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, hosting bingo, cheering for the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, and cruising in his convertible with his dogs by his side. He cherished time at the family cabin, and his favorite role of all, being "Papa" to his beloved grandson, Maverick.
Denny is preceded in death by his treasured daughter Lexy; his parents; brothers Lee and Gary; and nephew Christopher.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Stephanie; daughter Amanda (Brian); and grandson Maverick. He is also survived by brothers John (Sue) and David (Marilynn); sisters-in-law, Doreen Unze, Robin Lockwood (Dean), Vicki Eekhoff (Gary), Sheri Drube (Kurt), Carla Krege (Cory); brother-in-law Tom Schreiner (Jeanine); and many adored nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
A celebration of Denny's life will be held on Wednesday, July 9, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at the Chanhassen American Legion. In true Denny fashion, guests are invited to come as they are. Wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt or summertime attire as we gather to remember and celebrate the life of someone who brought joy to so many.
Denny will be forever remembered for his kind heart, quick wit, quiet strength, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched.
