McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation - Goose Creek LocationDennis Earl Utter, 78, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, in Summerville SC surrounded by family and friends.
He was born on May 27, 1947, in Washington D.C. to Lester Wayne Utter and Roberta Hobbs Utter.
Dennis graduated from The Citadel in 1969 with a degree in Mathematics and went on to enjoy a long and successful career with the federal government, concluding his service with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). He was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he shared a lively home with his parents, his brothers Gary and Randy, and his sister Janine. Dennis had a deep love for his church community and found joy in playing bridge and pickleball with friends.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte and his three sons: Bryan, Mark and Erik from a previous marriage to Anna Rucker Utter.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Summerville, 407 South Laurel Street, Summerville, SC 29483.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
