Dennis Leo Vollmer, 70, of Pilot Grove, MO, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday January 12, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home.
Dennis was born on April 13th, 1954 to the late Wilbert “Willie” Vollmer and Martha Lena (Kempf) Vollmer. Dennis was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, first at St John’s Clear Creek and then at St Joseph in Pilot Grove.
Dennis was a 1972 graduate of Pilot Grove High School. Following high school, Dennis worked hard all of his life at Hubert Fiberboard, Dana Company, University of Missouri, and MFA Oil until his well-deserved retirement in 2021.
In 1978 he married the love of his life Betty Jean Wassman, who survives of the home. From this union came two daughters, Jennifer (Jaret) Peterson and Katie Vollmer, both of Pilot Grove and a bonus daughter Robin (Mike) Bryan of Boonville.
Growing up on a farm, Dennis knew the meaning of hard work and he exemplified that throughout his life. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family. While the girls were growing up he would laugh and joke with others, stating that it took 3 girls to make his “boy”. He would work on cars with Robin, go on hunting trips with Jenny, and take Kate out to go fishing. Later in life, Dennis found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren Grace, Natalie, and Jesse Peterson, all of Pilot Grove.
In his retirement Dennis enjoyed spending time at the lake camping and taking his puppies Stella Jo and Lucy Lu on UTV rides. Dennis had many canine friends – some were house dogs, and some were hunting companions, but they all held a special place in his heart.
To celebrate his life, Dennis leaves his family listed above, as well as siblings, Judy (John) Gantner, Kenneth “George” Vollmer, Darrell Vollmer, Terry (Betty) Vollmer, Patty (Eddie) Smith, and Sue (Kenny) Clarke and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The recitation of the Rosary will begin at at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilot Grove followed by visitation until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Father Mark Smith officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Clear Creek.
Pallbearers are John J. Ganter, Jeff Baer, Daniel Franken, James Vollmer, Kendall Wassman, and David Wassman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in the care of Betty J Vollmer.
