Dennis Weaver Obituary

Published by Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives on May 31, 2013.
Dennis E Weaver, 70, of Azalea died Friday May 31st at his home after a long illness. A memorial service is planned for Friday June 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the Olivet Presbyterian Church in Glendale. Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Olivet Presbyterian Church, 268 Pacific Avenue, Glendale OR 97442. Weaver was born on June 24, 1942 in Taft California to Donald and Barbara Weaver. After graduating high school in Tiburon CA, he served in the U.S. Air Force. Weaver was self-employed for most of his life, working as a general contractor first in the Lake Tahoe, CA & Nevada areas, then Fort Ord, Outingdale, and Grizzly Flats, California before moving to Grants Pass, Oregon in 1987. One of Dennis' passions was fighting wildland forest fires. After moving to Oregon, he started fighting fire in 1987, and the last fire he fought was the Biscuit Fire in 2002. In addition to his fire fighting activities in the summers, he started many small businesses including silk screen frames, hardwood flooring, kettlecorn, and carving wood fireplace mantles. His final endeavor was going to be dredging for gold. He enjoyed rafting, fishing, houseboating, and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. In addition to his wife, Sharon Weaver, survivors include a son, Rick Weaver of California, a daughter, Ginger Havener of Reedsport and her husband Mick, a step-daughter, Jeanna Simila and her husband Roger of Grants Pass, a sister, Kendall Weaver of Portland, and three granddaughters, Claire & Mary Havener, & Ashley Simila.
